Welcome to the Gallatin Chamber of Commerce!
Gallatin sits in beautiful Daviess County with a population of 8,000 people in rural communities that include Jamesport, Altamont, Lake Viking, Pattonsburg, Winston, Coffey, Jameson, and Lock Springs. Gallatin is the County seat with our Courthouse standing in the Public Square. The Courthouse was built in the early 1900's and was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1980. It remains the County Hub for administration.
Historically, settlers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) gathered to the area in the 1830's. Important area LDS sites including Adam-Ondi-Ahman, Far West and Hans Mill are visited by many. We are about a hour's drive from the Kansas City area and so visiting these sights can take a whole day's visit. We have lovely Bed and Breakfasts to stay at if you decide to stay in the Gallatin area for the night. Tourist attractions in the county include the Amish Community in Jamesport, beautiful Lake Viking, the old Squirrel Cage Jail on Jackson Street in Gallatin, and our many seasonal festivals. Check out our calendar for a schedule of events. Though it was never proven that Frank and Jesse James attempted the robbery of the Daviess County Savings Association on December 7, 1869, still history records this incident as the robbery that prompted the Governor of Missouri to offer a reward for the capture of the infamous outlaws. The trial of Frank James was held here in Gallatin and the Gallaltin Chamber hopes to organize reenacting of these events on a regular schedule in the future.
